NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Lawrence J. Brazin of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal Jan. 30.
DLA Distribution Commander, U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Grafton D. Chase, Jr., pinned the medal to Brazin’s uniform during a ceremony held in the headquarters command conference room.
Brazin was recognized for his outstanding service as the reserve program manager for DLA Distribution from March 2021 to Feb. 2024. During this period, Brazin proactively engaged with a wide range of entities to ensure that units were fiscally supported and operationally ready by coordinating order processing valued at over $4 million. He coordinated Reserve support to numerous global exercises, including the Rim of the Pacific exercise in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the Combined Command Post training exercise in South Korea, and the Contingency Operations Readiness exercise held at Fort Custer, Michigan.
Additionally, Brazin facilitated support to personnel mobilized to the European Command for real world events during times of crisis. On numerous occasions, Brazin formulated a plan of action for DLA Distribution's Hurricane Support Team as part of a whole of a government response. In October 2023, Brazin volunteered for an immediate need assignment, available to support a potential U.S. response to a rapidly developing regional crisis. He was assigned to Joint Task Force-406 and embarked onboard USS Mount Whitney, the command-and-control ship of the United States Sixth Fleet, where he was assigned through November 30, 2023.
Brazin will soon depart the command in a permanent change of station. His next assignment will be to the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island.
