PHILADELPHIA –
Four Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support offices jointly hosted a Chili Cookoff event on February 8 in Philadelphia.
Eight employees, from the Command Support, Process Compliance, Small Business and Product Test Center offices, entered the heated but friendly competition for title, best of 2024. Chili’s ranged from mild to hot, and composed of chicken, turkey, beef, or vegan options.
“This is just another opportunity for employees across the offices to get to meet each other and have some fun,” said Director of Command Support Office Diana Stewart. “Another great event to promote morale, togetherness, and overall have some fun.”
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Commander, Army Brig. Gen. Landis Maddox served as a judge. “This is awesome,” said Maddox. “In my chili I prefer ground beef, a lot of spices, vegetables, and I may add a little bit of sausage to give it that Texas twang. I absolutely love chili at football games. The criteria and atmosphere of this contest is almost like a tailgate.”
While attendees awaited results of the competition, Maddox gave his 2024 Super Bowl prediction. “If I had two different hats, (Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers) I would have to go with the 49ers by three points,” he said. “You heard it here first.”
Judges determined Jamie Shockley, a business process analyst in the Process Compliance office, the winner.
“My chili was made of chicken, cream cheese, green chilis, and white corn,” said Shockley. “I got the basic recipe from someone, and I modified it to what my family and I like. It feels good to win and have everybody in the room and enjoying themselves.”
