Four Troop Support retirees celebrate 127 years of federal service

By Christian Deluca DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support held a retirement ceremony to honor the federal service of four civilian employees Feb. 29.

Alonzo Miller Jr., James Roberson Jr., Irene Johnson, and Madelynn Hall retired, after a combined 127 years of service, in front of a room full of family, friends and co-workers.

DLA Troop Support Deputy Commander Kishayra J. Lambert, who presided over the ceremony, said the retirees are taking over a century’s worth of knowledge and experience with them.

“You represent the ideals and values of our great workforce and our organization,” Lambert said. “You have made lasting impacts on the legacy of DLA Troop Support. Your service is indelibly marked in our record of success. Those years are characterized by the excellence embodied in the reputation of DLA Troop Support.”

During the ceremony each retiree was presented with a certificate of retirement, a DLA retirement memento, a pin of appreciation, and a coin and star note on behalf of Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Landis C. Maddox.

Spouses received a letter of appreciation for their support over the years, which Lambert said was essential to the accomplishments of the individuals and to DLA Troop Support as a whole.

“A great part of one’s successes can be attributed to their support system, and that includes your love and support of these retirees,” she said. “Our civilian workforce is also like a family. We come to work to serve the warfighters, but we grow to know the people we work with side-by-side almost as much as we know our families at home.”

Miller retired as a quality control specialist from the Clothing and Textiles supply chain after 44 years of federal service.

Roberson retired as a contract specialist from C&T after 39 years of federal service.

Johnson retired as a general supply specialist from the Construction and Equipment supply chain after 35 years of federal service.

Hall retired as a business process analyst from the Process Compliance office after nine years of federal service.
