FORT BELVOIR, Va. –
Army and civilian logistics leaders met to discuss Army transformation and methods for meeting future demands in a contested geopolitical environment May 22 at Defense Logistics Agency Headquarters.
The annual service day is a forum for agency leaders to update Army counterparts on DLA’s support and ongoing efforts around the globe, listen to the Army’s challenges and concerns, and identify areas for collaboration.
“As we think about our ability to deliver in the future, we will continue to examine how we deliver today,” DLA Director Army Lt. Gen. Mark Simerly said.
While much of the initial talk shaped the collective understanding of DLA’s combat support role, attendees also participated in open discussions to clearly define the joint logistics enterprise’s primary challenge – contested logistics.
“Change is part of DLA’s DNA. When you consider the contested logistics environment, DLA was born out of change,” Simerly added.
Attendees explored tough questions to force critical thinking about logistics support at the highest planning and execution levels. Other discussion topics included demand supply forecasting, parts provisioning challenges and data interoperability.
