RICHMOND, Va. –
Name: James L. Butcher
Organization: DLA Aviation at Cherry Point
Years of service at DLA: 17 years
What is your job title, and what do you do specifically? I’m a customer support specialist, and I serve as a point of contact to our customers for the order management process to ensure availability of material in support of maintenance and repair operations of multiple aircraft, such as the CH-53 Sea Stallion, AV-8B Harrier II, and V-22 Osprey.
How do you support the warfighter? I keep the Fleet Readiness Center East depot shops stocked with avionics, electric, ordnance, cryogenics, and aircraft wire or cable by monitoring it and briefing the Aviation Component Division on its availability or support issues.
What aspect(s) of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction? I know I have a part in supporting the world’s greatest military fighting force by making sure the U.S. Marines have the material they need.
If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? The DLA team at Cherry Point is going above and beyond to support your aircraft!
Professionally, where do you see yourself five years from now? I plan on successfully retiring and enjoying the small towns of this great country on my motorcycle. One of the trips I’m planning will be from North Carolina to Wyoming. I’ll be stopping to visit family and friends along the way.
Who is the most influential person in your life, either past or present? My three sons are my inspiration because they are successful and have accomplished more than I did at their ages.
Have you had a mentor that helped you grow in your career? Yes, I have. I’ve known Donald Meyer, a customer support specialist lead in the Materiel Management Division within DLA Cherry Point for more than 11 years. Don has inspired me by his vast knowledge, perseverance and dedication.
