Troop Support recognizes employees at awards ceremony

By Christian Deluca DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support celebrated employees’ accomplishments during the organization’s first in-person awards ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic, on July 17.

More than 50 individual and team awards and recognitions were represented during the event, which filled the auditorium in Building 6 at the Naval Support Activity Philadelphia.

Returning from the Army’s Sustainment Leader’s Summit in Huntsville, Ala. just in time to make the ceremony, DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Landis Maddox said he was “fired up” to recognize the accomplishments of the workforce.

“I came here fresh off an airplane,” he said. “I felt this event was so important. To be here with you and to show you how much we care about you, the people. That’s what this day is truly about. It’s about you.”

The presentations began with two DLA Meritorious Civilian Service Awards presented to Peter Monteleone, supervisory integrated supply team chief, and Frank Spadano, contracting officer, for their efforts with the Troop Support Training Academy and the Pathways to Career Excellence program.

Glenn Mahon, Troop Support liaison officer, received the DLA Superior Civilian Service Award for his work while deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in support of numerous operations. Mahon was primarily responsible for the provisioning of holiday meals for the entire U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility. He successfully coordinated the delivery of 825 truckloads of items to 37 dining facilities which were hosting more than 40,000 service members, civilians and contractors located in eight different countries.

Troop Support’s Medical Customer Pharmacy Operations Center was presented with the team of the year award which included a “bragging rights” trophy to be displayed throughout the year. The Medical CPOC team was recognized for, among other things, their work on the Pharmaceutical Provenance Solution, a supply chain mapping small business innovation research project, that can also be used to assess potential supply disruptions due to natural disasters and man-made events.

The Supervisor of The Year Award went to Catherine Dillon, Clothing and Textile supply chain division chief. Dillon leads a team of six acquisition specialists responsible for cradle to grave contracting of a wide range of individual equipment items. Under her tutelage, the team received DLA’s 56th Annual Employee Recognition for Acquisition Excellence for outstanding performance.

Kellie Wimsey, a contracting officer with the Subsistence supply chain received the DLA Employee of the Year Award for her work with the West Africa Sup Prime Vendor contract. Wimsey provided contractual oversight that helped bring the vendor’s performance back in line with and then exceeding contractual requirements.

Both Dillon and Wimsey received Supervisor and Employee of the Year championship belts to be displayed, or worn, throughout the year.

Quarterly and monthly awards were also handed out, as well as Career in Service Awards for individuals who have 35 or 40 years of government service.

Individuals from the Subsistence supply chain were recognized for their efforts with the humanitarian support to Gaza citizens, and the Command and Control Team were recognized for their work planning and executing multiple summits throughout the year.

Volunteers for the Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day, held April 25, were also recognized.
