NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
John Karns, chief counsel, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, was recognized for his nearly 50 combined years of service to the nation during a ceremony in front of friends, family and DLA leadership July 26 in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.
“You leave behind some big shoes to fill,” said Jon Leightner, acting general counsel, DLA. “DLA has benefited from your leadership and dedication for nearly 20 years. Thank you for all you have done for our nation.”
After serving two years in the Army and 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, Karns joined the DLA Distribution team in 2006 and became the chief counsel in 2009. In his role he was responsible for contract and fiscal law, ethics, domestic operations law, inquiries and investigations, Freedom of Information and Privacy Act requests and full range of general installation civil and administrative law issues.
Perry Knight, deputy commander, DLA Distribution, shared his thanks with Karns, reminiscing on some of the key initiatives and challenges that he helped provide trusted counsel.
“John has been an exemplary leader with the highest levels of integrity throughout his 18 years with DLA Distribution,” said Knight. “His unwavering commitment and profound legal expertise have been instrumental in shaping the agency’s success. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come.”
