PHILADELPHIA –
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support held a civilian retirement ceremony in honor of Kushiang “Joan” Shiau, on July 25 in Philadelphia.
Shiau retires from DLA Troop Support Medical supply chain as a Biomedical Engineer. She had been with DLA since 2007.
“Reading the accomplishments of Joan’s career as an engineer is truly humbling and inspiring,” said DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Landis Maddox.
“I majored in mechanical engineering and my daughter majored in biomedical engineering, so I know how tough it is, but we know the work you did greatly helped the supply chain and the whole of government.”
Shiau thanked her husband, Harry, for his love, support, and having dinner ready after work.
“I came to the United States with my husband to seek a better opportunity with a foreign student visa,” said Shiau. “I am so thankful from the bottom of my heart and touched. I cannot say thank you enough, but I was told to keep the speech short and sweet.”
In her retirement years, Shiau plans to spend more time traveling, reading and volunteering.
“My life is very simple,” Shiau said. “I can focus on reading again, because when my kids were small, there was no time to sit and read.”
Maddox expressed his gratitude for the time Shiau shared as a member of the Troop Support team.
“We talk about people having that special touch,” said Maddox. “We appreciate you sharing your life with us.”
