COLUMBUS, Ohio –
Defense Supply Center Columbus’ emergency response procedures were tested during a full-scale crisis response exercise Sept. 19.
Soldiers assigned to the Ohio Army National Guard Regional Training Institute reacted to an exercise scenario of a chemical release outside the building while two active shooters breached both floors inside the facility.
Responding agencies were Defense Logistics Agency Police and DLA Columbus Fire and Emergency Services. Executing a rapid response, team members were able to mitigate the situation efficiently and effectively.
The chemical release and active shooter scenario assessed the capability of the installation’s first responders to control multiple situations simultaneously which could have resulted in loss of life or damage to critical assets.
All other agencies on base participated in the lockdown and responded according to their established emergency action plans.
