The eight attendees met with DLA Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon the directorate leaders of Resource Management, Business Support, and Operations, among others. Orientation topics included the DOD Performance Management and Appraisal Program, safety, and services provided by DLA Human Resources.

Wes Brewster, the new area manager at DLA Disposition Services Sagami, Japan, was among the attendees. Brewster said he’s been with the agency since 2018 and joined DLA Disposition Services in 2019. Before his new role, he led the Operations team for the MSC’s Pacific region team.

Brewster said the orientation allowed him and other attendees the opportunity to network and build rapport with headquarters staff in Battle Creek, whom they typically only communicate with by phone or email.

Lonnie Aurty, the new area manager from Fort Riley, Kansas, also attended. Aurty joined DLA Disposition Services nine years ago after retiring from the Air Force, where he gained 20 years of supply experience.

“Meeting the other new area managers was important,” Aurty said. “It gave me a network of peers to discuss ideas with.”
