Name: Enemencio Alfaro III
Organizational directorate/division: Material Management Division, Aircraft Material Support Branch at Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Cherry Point, North Carolina.
How long have you worked for DLA: More than 14 years.
Do you have prior military service? I served more than 11 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a staff sergeant logistician.
What is your job title, and what do you do? As a customer support specialist, I try to find ways of getting the necessary material for my aircraft line and shops. I also provide the customer with the status of material that is currently not in stock.
Why did you decide to work for DLA? After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, I went to a local job fair in New Bern, North Carolina, where I got a job as a contractor for DLA Distribution at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Not long after, I got hired federally to work on the retail side at DLA Distribution Cherry Point in January 2009.
How do you support the warfighter? I support the warfighter by providing status to the V-22 program at Fleet Readiness Center East. As a customer support specialist, I provide status and updates on parts currently not in the supply system or find alternate solutions to resolve such issues.
What do you like most about your job and why? I really enjoy working with our FRCE customers every day. I try to solve part issues and provide any solutions I can to assist with receiving the needed parts for the production of aircraft within the V-22 line.
What is your fondest memory of working for DLA Aviation? I have many fond memories of working with the customers here at FRCE, but the fondest is working with the Aircraft Division here at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Our team has great camaraderie, which makes the workday more enjoyable.
What do you see as your biggest challenge right now? The biggest challenge right now is getting the customer to understand how the supply chain works. It is important that they understand that not all parts can be here when they need it. Logistics can be troublesome at times, and some things are out of our control, but we are doing everything we can to support them.
If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? I would thank them for their service and tell them I am here to support them in any way I can to keep them in the fight.
Professionally, where do you see yourself five years from now? I still see myself working for DLA here at Cherry Point, North Carolina. I am still young enough to do so and don’t see myself retiring anytime soon.
What are some of your passions outside of work? I currently have four kids: two of my own, one nephew who lives with me and a niece who stays with me occasionally due to my sister working long hours as a nurse. My passion is spending as much time as I can with them outside of work.
What’s the most thrilling or adventurous thing you have ever done? During my Marine Corps career, I had the opportunity to travel to some of the most amazing places on earth: Australia, Alaska, Iceland, Italy and Spain, to name a few. Those countries were all amazing places to see.
What is your favorite military aircraft? I am biased on the V-22 aircraft as it has versatility in its flight and its capabilities. I also loved the AV-8 (Harrier) before it finally sundowned here at Cherry Point, North Carolina.
What is the most important thing in your life right now? My relationship with God is the most important thing in my life; as he has given me the ability to handle all the stressful things that we go through on a daily basis.
