Philadelphia –
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support honored the federal service of three civilian retirees during a ceremony on April 17.
With a combined 125 years of service, Albert J. Murray, Maryann Sweeney and Gail Peterson retired in front of a gathering of family, friends and colleagues. Murray, a technical support specialist, retired from the Medical supply chain after completing 43 years of service. Sweeney, a customer account specialist, and Peterson, a resolution specialist, both retired from the Clothing and Textiles supply chain with 42 and 40 years of respective federal service.
DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Landis C. Maddox presided over the ceremony and addressed the permanent impact each retiree leaves on the workforce.
“Today we don’t just recognize service, but today we are here celebrating legacies,” Maddox said. “Today we have the honor of highlighting three remarkable individuals whose careers total an astonishing 125 of combined federal service. That means 125 years of commitment, loyalty and impact. That kind of dedication doesn’t just happen. It comes from a deep sense of purpose.”
Murray addressed the importance of relationships and shared goals at Troop Support.
“The one thing I am going to miss in retirement is the people,” Murray said. “The people I worked with all these years. The people I helped all these years and the people who helped me so much. So many of them taught me to use a computer. When I started at DLA Troop Support 1983, there were no computers. I, of course, didn’t know how to use a computer. The people I work with, the young kids, taught me how to use a computer. A lot of them are in the room today for my retirement. I am going to really miss working with these people.”
Maddox presented each retiree with a letter of retirement, a pin of appreciation, a Commander’s coin and star note.
“[These retirees] are all pillars of this organization,” Maddox said. “You have not only shaped your respective supply chains, but you have shaped the culture, mission and you are—what I consider— the heartbeat of DLA Troop Support. These retirees prove that when you lead with purpose, you can inspire a workforce.”
Spouses also received a letter of appreciation for their support over the years, which Maddox said was essential to the dedication of each retiree.
“The success of these wonderful careers can only thrive with the love and support of your family.” Maddox said.
