PHILADELPHIA –
The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Aide-de-Camp 1st Lieutenant Shannon Duley was promoted to captain during a ceremony on June 6.
Duley of Middletown, Md. has been with Troop Support since 2024, serving as aide to Troop Support’s Commander Army Brig. Gen. Landis C. Maddox. Prior to landing in Philadelphia, Duley was assigned to 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
“Promotion is an honor and a blessing”, said Maddox. “The Army promotes an officer not only based on his or her prior performance, but more importantly the Army promotes an officer based off of their future potential.”
Duley’s parents, Rick and Alison Duley of Middleton, Md, were present for the ceremony.
“We loved the ceremony and thought it was very well done, said Rick Duley. “We are very proud of our daughter,” added Alison Duley.
Duley’s wife, Abigail Gillette and older sister Bryana Duley pinned on her newest rank.
“She worked very hard to get to where she is,” said her sister. “I knew at a young age she was going to excel very quickly.”
Maddox gifted Gillette, a civilian, with an honorary promotion to the rank of Major. “I wasn’t expecting it,” said Gillette. “It feels good to still outrank her and now it is official.”
In her speech to family and friends, Duley stated she did not want a large celebration. She thanked Maddox in her speech.
“I have grown not only as a leader, spouse, friend, sister and daughter, because of endless mentorship, said Duley. “We have had a lot of three to four-hour car rides to headquarters in Virginia, and he talks a lot!”
Duley is a 2021 graduate of Radford University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice while a member of ROTC.
She, along with Gillette, and their fur babies will return to Virginia later this Summer, as Duley begins the Captains Career Course at Fort Gregg-Adams.
“Becoming a captain is more than a new rank and a pay raise”, said Duley. “It’s a responsibility to lead and protect those in my command. It is better to be consistently good; over occasionally great.”
In the meantime, Duley mentions she wants to celebrate by enjoying a night out with family.
Maddox concluded with stating, “As you prepare to depart Troop Support, take with you the lessons, the laughs and the love you’ve received from the Troop Support Team.”
