Troop Support commander hosts first town hall

By Janeen Hayes DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

The newest Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support commander shared his leadership philosophy and expressed his admiration of the workforce during his inaugural town hall July 15 in Philadelphia.

“This is a superb organization,” Army Brig. Gen. Sean P. Kelly said to the audience in the standing room only auditorium. “I am absolutely honored and humbled to be on this stage here, a part of this great team. It is absolutely incredible what this organization does, every single day.”

Kelly took command of DLA Troop Support on June 18 and has spent the past four weeks meeting with the supply chain and staff office leaders and learning how the organization operates.

“We have, in my opinion, the most complicated and most diverse portfolio,” Kelly said. “I have been on the receiving end of this great team’s support. Whether it was in Iraq or Afghanistan, sitting in the Philippines or somewhere in Thailand. Folks in this room here have written those contracts and ensured we had what we needed.”

Kelly brings to Troop Support 25 years of military experience, commanding at every level up to his current rank as one-star.

“I’ve got a lot of operational experience,” Kelly said. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the field.”

However, he is no stranger to DLA, as he served as the J-33 Chief of Operations at the agency’s headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia from 2014 to 2016.

His experiences through his career have cultivated his leadership style.

“I am laser focused on readiness,” Kelly said. “Laser focused on readiness of our operating force and our customers.”

A self-proclaimed visual learner, Kelly told the audience that he asks a lot of questions and to expect to see him around the various offices.

“I have not had any success commanding an organization behind a computer or a laptop,” he said. “It is important to get out and around your areas to engage, so you will see me around.”

The event also gave the new Deputy Commander Christopher Mosher an opportunity to introduce himself to the workforce.

Mosher is also not new to DLA. His previous assignments included serving as the Director of Procurement Operations for DLA Aviation and as the Director of Subsistence for DLA Troop Support.

“I’m so excited to be back here at Troop Support”, Mosher said. “I am a bit emotional as I stand on this stage because the last time I was up here, I retired from the Navy and walked into my civilian career.”

Mosher expressed his appreciation to be serving as deputy commander, in what he coined as his “dream job.”

“It may sound a little cliché, but I am here to help,” he said. “I am here to help this organization. I’m here to help each and every one of you. I want to make sure that our team has everything you need to be successful.”

The event also included a birthday cake and a rendition of “Happy Birthday” to recognize DLA Troop Support’s 266th anniversary.
