DLA expands Supplier Pathway Program to guide new, existing suppliers across supply chains

By DLA Office of Small Business Programs

The Defense Logistics Agency is introducing the latest iteration of its Supplier Pathway Program, designed to help new and established suppliers to better understand how to do business with DLA across its supply chains.

Two major additions to the program have recently launched. A new General Contracting Pathway outlines the core steps common to working with any of DLA’s supply chains. And the first Tailored Supplier Pathway focused on DLA Energy’s bulk petroleum portfolio provides detailed insights into the specific requirements and expectations in this complex area.

“These enhancements bring clarity and accessibility to doing business with DLA,” said Daniele Kurze, executive director of DLA Small Business Programs. “Whether a supplier is entering the defense market for the first time or expanding into a new portfolio with DLA, this iteration provides  roadmaps supporting smarter business decisions and stronger outcomes.”

DLA Energy’s Acquisition Executive Gabriella Earhardt emphasized the importance of the release of the DLA Energy-focused pathway, noting the significance of this milestone in such a critical and demanding supply chain.

“The tailored pathway for bulk fuel petroleum is a major step forward in supporting a resilient, reliable energy supply chain,” Earhardt said. “I am incredibly proud of the DLA Energy acquisition team for their part on this effort. Their enthusiasm and commitment to making our processes more transparent and supplier-friendly will strengthen our partnerships and readiness moving forward.”

DLA Energy tailored pathways for aerospace and direct delivery fuel will be released soon, Earhardt added.

Kurze added that the pathway initiative also supports broader agency goals of transparency, efficiency and innovation.  “This program helps us pinpoint where opportunities exist in the process so we can evolve. It is about making the system work better for everyone, including DLA.”

Over the next year, DLA will release additional tailored pathways aligned with each of its major supply chain portfolios, including strategic materials, clothing and textiles, and construction and equipment. Each tailored pathway will include detailed information about procurement expectations, mandatory requirements and other upfront information to help suppliers understand what is involved before engaging.

As DLA improves its supplier portal, these pathways reflect DLA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its supplier base and streamlining access to its critical logistics network, said DLA Acquisition Director Matt Beebe.
