JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM –
The Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services Okinawa team recently showcased the true power of partnership and collaboration during a critical offloading mission at White Beach Naval Port in Okinawa, Japan.
In a demonstration of flexibility and shared commitment, the team adjusted normal working hours to accommodate a tight 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. road access window to ensure three harbor boats were successfully offloaded in late September. Their success was made possible by the strong relationships built between DLA’s reverse logisticians and Navy sailors and relied on close coordination with port personnel to secure vital crane support to safely move the vessels.
What truly stood out to area leaders was the team’s ability to adapt and align schedules with the Navy's needs. Understanding the importance of the operation, the Okinawa property disposal site willingly adjusted to meet the narrow time frame dictated by the Occupancy of Governmental Roads Based System, demonstrating the agency’s dedication to supporting the warfighter, no matter the circumstances.
“This mission exemplifies the strength of our partnerships,” said Pat Leverett, the area manager at DLA Disposition Services Okinawa. “Our success was only possible because we worked hand in hand with Navy personnel, port operators, and contractors. It was a true team effort, and together, we were able to execute the operation seamlessly.”
Faron Cordrey, DLA Disposition Services Indo-Pacific director, emphasized the importance of this mission in relation to DLA’s core values.
“At DLA Disposition Services, we are committed to driving and sustaining warfighter readiness by delivering unmatched global support as the Nation’s Logistics Combat Support Agency. This mission exemplifies our core values of respect, trust, service, excellence, and innovation,” Cordrey said. “By fostering strong partnerships, adapting to the Navy's unique needs, and executing with precision, we not only meet the immediate demands but also contribute to long-term operational readiness. This operation is a powerful example of how DLA’s agile, adaptive, and resilient logistics support plays a critical role in maintaining mission success across the continuum of conflict.”
DLA Disposition Services Okinawa’s role in this operation reinforced the importance of strong relationships and open communication in making missions happen. By working together, the team not only ensured the offloading's success but also set a powerful example of how partnership can drive mission readiness.
