NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Navy Capt. Andy Henwood, commander, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, hosted a ceremony honoring the 251st birthday of the U.S. Army June 10, in New Cumberland.
“Today, we’re celebrating our senior service within the armed forces,” Henwood said. “One of the best things about being here at DLA Distribution Susquehanna, is that you get to experience the cultures of the other branches, enjoy learning about their history and hear stories of their great leaders throughout history.”
The ceremony featured guest speaker, Army Lt. Col. Joseph Quenga. Quenga currently serves as the chief of capability programming, Office of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Programs, providing advice to Army senior leaders to guide the alignment of resources with defense strategy and future force modernization.
“Moments like this highlight how deeply connected the Army, the joint force and DLA truly are, sharing a foundation built on teamwork, dedication and a profound sense of service,” Quenga said. “My own time at DLA Energy taught me that DLA professionals are quiet heroes who will always find a way to accomplish the mission. Wherever the Army goes, DLA Distribution is right there with us, consistently delivering exactly what we need, right when we need it, to build and sustain our readiness.”
The ceremony culminated with the traditional cutting of the birthday cake, executed by Henwood, Quenga, the oldest Army veteran in attendance, Robert Jeffries, and the youngest Soldier present, Army Staff Sgt. Zachary Davies. The passing of the third piece of cake from Jeffries, the oldest veteran, to Davies, the youngest Soldier, symbolizes the continuity of service, the transfer of knowledge and experience, and the enduring strength of the United States Army across generations.
