PHILADELPHIA –
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s teamwork was in full swing as friendly competition, and a shared sense of camaraderie, took center field when employees from the Medical and Subsistence supply chains faced off in a softball game to strengthen morale and build connections beyond the office on June 10.
The Surgeon General’s Framework for Workplace Mental Health and Well Being identifies connection and community as “engines of well being.” This framework supports that strong workplace relationships contribute significantly to employee engagement, job satisfaction and overall well-being.
As part of a greater Troop Support workforce effort to boost morale, employees from both supply chains stepped onto the field where job titles and office locations took a back seat to teamwork.
“This friendly competition was organized as part of ongoing efforts to promote employee morale and foster positive workforce culture,” said Alyssa Greco, project integrator. “The Cultural Improvement Teams and Employee Morale Teams from both supply chains worked together to plan this event.”
Enjoying spending time with coworkers is important to working together on a given mission to maintain battle rhythm.
“Team building is so important,” said Susan Gallager, lead commodity support liaison. “When we come together in a collective way and execute these popular events, we’re building upon the partnerships, trust, and communication that enhance collaboration across supply chains and contribute to mission success.”
For many participants and the crowd, the event offered a welcome break from daily responsibilities and an opportunity to recharge alongside coworkers.
“These bonding opportunities help create positive work environments and impact mental health,” said Greco. “They also remind us that strong teams are built not only through mission accomplishment, but also through meaningful personal connections.”
From the first pitch to the final out, teammates from both supply chains cheered one another on by celebrating big plays and embracing the spirit of friendly competition.
“These events give us a chance to know each other better and realize we really are a part of the same team,” said Greco. “We look forward to more events like this one.”
Whether wearing red for Medical or green for Subsistence, employees left the field with a renewed sense of connection providing that sometimes the most important outcomes aren't measured on the scoreboard but in the bonds that help keep teams saucerful long after the game is over.
