DLA Aviation and DLA Land and Maritime to deactivate, DLA Weapons Support to stand up

DLA Weapons Support Public Affairs

The Defense Logistics Agency will host ceremonies on July 23 and 24 to mark the formal deactivation of DLA Aviation and DLA Land and Maritime and the activation of the new DLA Weapons Support major subordinate command.

The establishment of DLA Weapons Support is a key initiative in DLA’s transformative efforts to optimize global logistics for the joint force, directly aligning with the Secretary of War’s intent to hone warfighter readiness.

The transition will begin on July 23 at Defense Supply Center Richmond with the official deactivation ceremony for DLA Aviation and will include the relinquishment of command by Air Force Brig. Gen. Patrick Launey.

Operations will shift to Defense Supply Center Columbus on July 24 for the official deactivation ceremony of DLA Land and Maritime. This will be immediately followed by the activation and assumption of command ceremony for the new DLA Weapons Support command.

Navy Rear Adm. Julie Treanor, who together with Launey, has shepherded the integration of the two legacy organizations since taking command of DLA Land and Maritime last summer, will officially assume command of the unified DLA Weapons Support.

Headquartered at DSCC, the unified organization will operate from its primary hubs in Ohio and Virginia, as well as over 50 forward sites around the globe, to provide comprehensive, streamlined weapons systems support to the military services.
