DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor drives logistics success at RIMPAC 2026

By Thomas Zimmerman DLA Distribution Public Affairs

As the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise, the 2026 Rim of the Pacific demands world-class, agile logistical support. Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, answered that call, delivering critical materiel and sustaining operational readiness for U.S. and allied forces operating across the Pacific Command region.

"The team here demonstrated DLA’s 'Warfighter Always' commitment by ensuring mission-critical, essential equipment and material reached the fleet and warfighters rapidly, accurately and efficiently," said Navy Cmdr. Joey Lanclos, commander, DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor. "To strengthen Pacific supply chain resilience and maintain operational readiness, the team leveraged advanced track-and-trace capabilities to maintain full visibility and accountability throughout the distribution process. By quickly locating, processing, and supplying required materiel, DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor delivered dependable logistics and outstanding customer service that directly supported maritime readiness."

Integrating seamlessly with both U.S. Navy assets and international partners, the distribution center’s RIMPAC support served as a real-world demonstration of DLA's global force projection and supply chain resilience. This ability to surge operations and sustain multi-national forces at the point of need directly underscores the agency’s focus on reinforcing theater alliances and maintaining an uninterrupted logistical edge in the Pacific region.

"The primary challenge during this iteration of RIMPAC was successfully managing last-minute changes, urgent support requests from ships and evolving customer requirements, all while maintaining strict equipment accountability," Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Caleb Handova, logistics specialist, DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor Emergency Support Operations Center, added. "We overcame these hurdles through constant communication, continuous tracking and proactive teamwork. This agility enabled the team to adapt to last-minute shifts and consistently deliver the right equipment to the right customer at the right time."

The volume of material processed by the Pearl Harbor team underscores the robust capabilities of the distribution center. Throughout the exercise, the Material Processing Center executed nearly 10,000 deliveries across 12 participating U.S. vessels.

Supporting major fleet assets required intense coordination and heavy lifting. For the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, the team processed approximately 290 pallets of material. Additionally, they inducted more than 1,350 wooden pallets and 1,000 tri-walls for the carrier, delivering 700 of each and staging the remainder at the Naval Supply Systems Command Pearl Harbor Fleet Logistics Center.

Support for the amphibious assault ship USS Essex was equally demanding, with the DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor team processing 120 total material pallets. Highlighting the agility required during dynamic military exercises, the team processed, manifested, wrapped and loaded 50 pallets onto trailers to support a July 20 replenishment at sea for the USS Essex.

Behind these massive numbers was a dedicated integrated workforce. To ensure no ship went unsupplied, personnel worked through weekends and extended shifts.

"The workforce operated seamlessly as one team, demonstrating exceptional dedication, professionalism and agility," said Vangie Kala, supervisor of DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor’s Material Processing Center. "To meet fluid operational demands, employees actively adjusted schedules, worked overtime and supported one another across the entire organization. Their ability to communicate effectively, collaborate closely with liaison officers and stay mission-focused ensured that changing customer needs were met with uninterrupted, high-quality support."

RIMPAC's core strength lies in international cooperation, and DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor played a pivotal logistical role in supporting foreign allies, reinforcing the strategic focus of integrated deterrence. The team successfully processed 69 requisitions and 43 bills of lading for eight distinct partner nations, enhancing interoperability and trust on the global stage.

This international sustainment included requisitions for Australia, New Zealand, Korea,  Canada, Chile, Italy, Spain, and Germany.

Expedited and theater-level consolidation operations were also running at full capacity. The Expedited Support Operations Center managed bearers and pickups, including actions for Spain, Australia, Italy and South Korea, coordinated by Naval Supply Systems Command logistics support representatives.

Ultimately, the success of a massive, multi-domain exercise like RIMPAC hinges on the uninterrupted flow of material across a vast theater of operations. By expertly managing everything from bulk cargo deliveries to expedited foreign shipments, the team demonstrated their vital role in the Pacific supply chain.

"Seamlessly supporting eight partner nations during RIMPAC 2026 required deep flexibility, constant communication and tight coordination with liaison officers, partner representatives and internal organizations," said Navy Lt.  Juan Sese, DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor operations officer. "By taking the time to understand each nation's unique requirements and delivering reliable, timely support, we built vital trust and confidence. This successful multinational collaboration strengthens international bonds and directly improves tactical interoperability for future combined operations and exercises in the region."
