Paul A. McMillan assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Bahrain, Southwest Asia, in a ceremony June 18.  The ceremony was officiated by DLA Distribution commander Army Brig. Gen. Richard Dix.

“DLA Distribution is here to support our Nation’s military around the world and at any given moment these soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are serving in harm’s way in some of the most austere, difficult environments in the world,” said Dix.  “I know Mr. McMillan will uphold our legacy of efficiency, effectiveness and best value so we continue to remain relevant well into the future.”

A retired air force chief master sgt., McMillan has served in a wide range of logistics assignments, beginning in 1980.  He contributed to the Ground Launched Cruise Missile program and served on the Intermediate Nuclear Force Treaty Inspection Team at Florennes, Belgium.  He developed the Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command Munitions Directorate and served as the munitions liaison to the J4 directorate at Headquarters U.S. Special Operations Command, where he provided munitions expertise and guidance to all DoD branches within Special Forces.

In 1998, McMillan was assigned as the supply superintendent to the National Science Foundation’s United States Antarctic Program for Operation Deep Freeze in Christchurch, New Zealand, the longest running military operation in history.  He served as a lead member in the transfer of Antarctic military operations from the U.S. Navy to the U.S. Air Force. He held additional duties as the contracting officer representative, transportation management officer, maintenance superintendent, and senior enlisted advisor to more than 1,000 deployed personnel.

After retiring from the Air Force in 2006, McMillan started his DLA career and became the site manager for DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas.  McMillan later served as the operations officer for DLA Distribution Europe, and served as the deputy commander for DLA Distribution Anniston, Ala., from 2010 to 2015.

McMillan became the deputy commander of DLA Distribution Bahrain in February 2015.

A graduate of the Institute for Defense and Business Depot and Arsenal Executive Leadership Program from the University of North Carolina, McMillan also studied logistics at the Community College of the Air Force.  In addition, he holds an executive Champions Certificate in Lean Six Sigma from North Carolina State University.

His awards include the Exceptional Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
