By Brianne Bender DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Charles G. Daniel, support services specialist, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Red River, Texas, has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Vehicle/MHE Senior Civilian Manager of the Year award for his outstanding performance maintaining material handling equipment.

“Employing his extensive knowledge of material handling equipment, Installed Industrial equipment and vehicles, equipment maintenance, and fleet operations, Mr. Daniel’s planning, program execution, and decisions directly impacted customer support as well as processing and inventory objectives,” said deputy director DLA Distribution Red River, Frank Holobinko.

Daniel is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of more than 1,700 pieces of Fixed Industrial Equipment, as well as providing training and support to the MHE fleet manager in managing a MHE fleet of over 300 pieces. He is the subject matter expert of choice in the Equipment Management and Control System inputting over 200 new pieces of industrial equipment and vehicles into the system, assigning registration numbers and setting up individual equipment preventative maintenance schedules.

Additionally, Daniel worked closely with the Distribution Support equipment engineer to design and procure three tension fabric membrane structures to store track material for the Army. With over $40 million in track stored at the distribution center, he worked tirelessly to provide these tents for inside storage. “These structures along with 43 pieces of MHE that Mr. Daniel has personally inducted and installed, significantly increases the mission capability of the distribution center and enhances DLA’s goal of providing the right part at the right place and time,” said Holobinko.

Overall, Daniel manages over 25 service contracts for the distribution center.  Over the past year, he processed over 2,700 maintenance requests, 1,000 flat change work orders, contracted two office furnishing contracts and updated the Command Conference Room and Distance Learning Center. In addition, he coordinated over $2 million in installed equipment procurement for the distribution center.

“Mr. Daniel is an excellent team player. His professionalism, volunteerism and can-do attitude are incredible, and he is most deserving of this unique award opportunity,” said Holobinko.
