Puget Sound’s Carabeo named DLA Distribution Employee of the Quarter

Lalyn L. Carabeo, materiel handler at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Puget Sound at Naval Station Everett, Wash., has been selected as one of DLA Distribution’s Employees of the Quarter for second quarter fiscal year 2015.

“Ms. Carabeo is an integral and valuable member of DLA Distribution Puget Sound.  Her hard work and tireless dedication in providing exceptional customer service, combined with her always cheerful attitude, exudes DLA pride and guarantees customer satisfaction,” said Navy Cmdr. Mark Peace, DLA Distribution Puget Sound commander.

The lone Navy retail employee at DLA Distribution Puget Sound’s Everett site, Carabeo shifted from operating out of an open warehouse to a customer service window- a new process designed to improve safety and security, but also a change for retail customers.

“She took the time to explain to our customers why the process changed and highlighted the long-term benefits leading to a smoother transition and quelling the natural unease associated with change,” said Peace.

In addition to retail work, Carabeo assists in the organization’s Materiel Processing Center functions.   She proactively planned and assisted in the development of the process flow of materials from point of receipt, to staging, screening, consolidation, transshipment or point of issue.  She also ensured the required hardware and software would support the new processes and the installation of general and bar code printers, in-line scanners and label printers, resulting in correct documentation and accurate accountable records.

Carabeo also serves as fire warden and environmental work center representative, enhancing the overall safety of her assigned work place, and contributing to a report of zero discrepancies in the monthly and quarterly Safety and Industrial Safety Inspection, conducted by DLA and host command safety officers.

“Ms. Carabeo is a strong leader and good follower.  She is executing at the highest levels and providing superior performance in all tasking and training.  She is a true professional, driving distribution excellence,” said Peace.
