DLA Distribution Susquehanna commander makes first visit to Troop Support

By Jason Kaneshiro DLA Distribution Public Affairs

The commander of nearby Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania made his first visit to DLA Troop Support Aug. 26.

Army Col. Corey New met with DLA Troop Support Deputy Commander Richard Ellis and Chief of Staff Robert Ratner to learn more about Troop Support’s mission.

New also met with representatives of the supply chains for briefings on their operations. In separate meetings with each supply chain, New asked what could be done better at Susquehanna to decrease the time it takes to provide support to customers.

Employees at the Susquehanna facilities receive, store and move many of the items supported by Troop Support supply chains.

“We had a good discussion on how to prioritize shipments to meet the needs of our customers,” said Helen Grimm, a customer operations division chief with the Construction and Equipment supply chain. Grimm said that they look forward to continued collaboration with New and his team.

New assumed command at DLA Distribution Susquehanna in August 2013 and said that he wished he had been able to make the trip to Troop Support sooner and would advise his successor to do so.

“I’m part of the supply chain that comes after Troop Support’s mission, so for me it was great to see the things that go on up front in the supply chain,” New said. “It has been very eye opening to me. As I walked around, there’s no doubt in my mind that the folks at Troop Support know why they’re here and what the mission is that they’re here to support.”

DLA Distribution Susquehanna is the largest distribution facility in the Defense Department and supports the handling and delivery of repair parts, medical supplies and clothing.
