RICHMOND, Va. –
Defense Supply Center Richmond employees kicked off their annual Combined Federal Campaign Sept. 23 in the Frank B. Lotts Conference Center. The campaign runs through Dec. 15 and this year’s campaign theme is “Serving our Country, Supporting our Community.”
Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Deputy Commander Charlie Lilli opened the ceremony, welcoming employees, and guest speakers: Elizabeth Thomas, from the Richmond Animal League; Ann Edgerton, from Mental Health Association of Virginia; and Ruth Anne Cutright from the Chesterfield Court Appointed Special Advocates. Other special guests were the Combined Fund Organization for Central Virginia representatives Sandy Lewis and Heath Niemeyer.
Lilli said the CFC is a terrific event giving everyone an opportunity to contribute in any way they choose. He pointed out a new charity that has joined is the DLA Foundation which provides programs that are related to scholarships, recognitions, and commemorations of former and current DLA employees.
He shared a personal account of his father passing away from pancreatic cancer 10 years ago and that is one of the charities he felt a connection with and chose to support. He encouraged employees to research the CFC catalog and find the organization that they would like to support and to share that information with friends, co-workers and family to get the word out in support of the campaign and reaching the goal.
This year’s goal is to raise $309,752. Lilli said we can exceed this goal with the help and generosity of the employees.
He emphasized that the CFC is a terrific event whose mission is to promote philanthropy through a voluntary program that is employee focused, cost efficient, and effective in providing all Federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for everyone.
Lilli recognized and thanked the co-campaign managers Lisa Alexander and Jennifer Sampson, supervisory program analysts from the DLA Aviation Command Support Directorate for their hard work and dedication. He also recognized and thanked keyworkers who volunteered for this year’s campaign.
He said, DSCR keyworkers have already begun distributing the printed brochures and pledge cards to employees and encouraged employees to do what they can to help.
Following the ceremony, employees had an opportunity to speak with more than 30 charities listed in this year’s campaign brochure during the agency fair. The charities offered give-aways and information on their organizations.
The CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with more than 200 CFC campaigns across the U.S. and internationally that help raise millions of dollars each year, according to its website. CFC has helped raise more than $7 billion since donor contributions began in 1961
