PHILADELPHIA –
For the past 240 years, American sailors have selflessly dedicated their lives to the world’s largest Navy, a Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support senior leader said during a ceremony in Philadelphia Oct. 13, honoring the service’s birthday.
“Our Navy has helped improve the quality of life for countless people worldwide through its humanitarian assistance and outreach efforts, Navy Capt. Ricardo Wilson, the DLA Troop Support director of Procurement Process Support said. “Untold thousands have lived by the words engraved on the Naval Academy chapel door, ‘Not for self, but for country.’”
In honor of this occasion, Wilson, who is the oldest Naval personnel at DLA Troop Support, and Lt. Andrew Heisler, who works in the Subsistence supply chain, cut the ceremonial birthday cake prior to the weekly staff meeting.
On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress established a naval force to work with privateers to tactically stop the transporting of British supplies into North America.
According to Navy.mil, the service has grown from the small fleet of ships in 1775 to now more than 328,000 active duty personnel, more than 110, 000 reservists and more than 270 deployable battle force ships.
