RICHMOND, Virginia –
Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody traveled to Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Oct. 26 to learn more about Defense Logistics Agency Aviation and DLA Distribution operations,
Cody thanked Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Air Force Brig. Gen. Allan Day for allowing himself and his staff to visit, but more importantly Cody said he wanted to come down to say thank you. “There is a lot going on here every day and we realize what you do is important,” he said.
Cody met with DLA Aviation military senior and enlisted personnel during his visit and also asked that they pass his thanks onto and take time themselves to thank their families for their support.
“Each of us is successful because of our families,” he said. “We signed up for this, but they were drafted. Take the time to thank your families, they brighten our days.”
During his morning visit, Cody received an enterprise –level DLA overview briefing and individual briefs on DLA Aviation and DLA Distribution operations.
Following the briefings, he made himself available to DLA Aviation’s enlisted personnel, and discussed with them the value of joint assignments and recent promotion system changes the Air Force is currently implementing.
Some enlisted members expressed concern that individual services valued joint assignments differently in terms of career progression.
Cody told service members that all services value commitment, performance and value-added.
Adding that he thought DLA Aviation’s enlisted cadre, being in a joint assignment, are in a unique position to be able to document accomplishments and the level of impact those accomplishments have better than their contemporaries in other units.
After learning about DLA Aviation and DLA Distribution at Richmond's mission, he was given a tour of the historical installation, shown various military construction project sites, and visited the DLA Aviation's Mapping Division where he learned about print-on-demand map capabilities.
