DLA senior enlisted leader visits senior enlisted advisor to the Joint Chiefs

By DLA Public Affairs DLA Public Affairs

The Defense Logistics Agency’s top enlisted leader visited with the senior enlisted advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff this week as part of an effort to increase the relationship between the agency and the military services.

Army Command Sgt. Major Charles Tobin met with Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Bryan Battaglia, the principal military advisor to the Chairman and the Secretary of Defense, during an Oct. 20 visit to the Pentagon.

“My dialogue and discussion with [Battaglia] was all about the capability that we have in DLA,” Tobin said. “But more important, it was about what we can all do together as a team in support of the warfighter. He was appreciative for what DLA brings to the fight.”

As the senior non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Armed Forces, Battaglia advises on all matters involving joint and combined total force integration, utilization, health of the force and joint development for enlisted personnel.

“DLA is one of our main artery organizations in the Department of Defense,” Battaglia said. “It touches nearly everything we have that ensures operational longevity as an armed force. If a service member shoots it, wears it, operates it, drives it, repairs it, eats it or drinks it, Team DLA is part of that process.”

Since coming on board in July, Tobin said he has made a point to visit with the military services’ senior enlisted leaders and thank them for their support.

“Consensus-building and relationship engagements with our senior enlisted leaders are the key to our success,” he said.

Increased communication and collaboration between DLA, its industry partners, warfighters and the military services is the third goal of DLA Director Lt. Gen. Andy Busch’s DLA Strategic Plan for 2015-2022.
