NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
In addition to donating to a favorite non-profit, the Combined Federal Campaign provides an opportunity for Federal employees to learn about other local charities and the services they provide. As it often happens, making a personal connection to a charity leads to a mutually benefiting, long-term relationship. To educate employees and make those connections, an agency fair was held at Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna, Nov. 5.
The fair featured trained service dogs who took shifts making those all-important connections. Ajax and Prague were such attention grabbers that other agencies representatives joked that they should have also brought soft, fuzzy companions. Undoubtedly, all the representatives were eager to share their information; a food bank, family shelter, and crisis helpline were among the other participants. With funding getting harder to obtain, they appreciate any opportunity to gain both supporters and volunteers.
During the fair, employees were encouraged to donate to their favorite charity from any of the thousands of local, federal and international groups listed with CFC. Having laptops accessible at the fair was a convenience, offering a way for employees to pledge online through myPay CFC.
CFC keyworkers Nichole Foster and Dominque Chenault initially helped donors search for charity codes before starting the donation process. Some had never used myPay prior to the fair, so the experience was a benefit all around. Foster and Chenault found the search site to be user friendly for donors, and it was the donors who made the fair fun.
The installation will host another CFC fair Nov. 17 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. in the Building 81 lobby, and from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. in the Building 750 employee breakroom.
