Fort Belvoir, Virginia –
What do
a ’58 Austin-Healey, a ’67 F-250, a custom Harley-Davidson, and a Tesla have in
common?
They
were all on display at the 3rd Annual CFC Motorcycle and Car Show,
held Nov. 5 in the parking lot of the McNamara Headquarters Complex, to raise
money for the Combined Federal Campaign.
Retired
Army Col. Ray Willis, whose daughter is a Defense Logistics Agency employee, brought
his 1958 Austin-Healy 100-6 Roadster to the show. Willis said he bought the car
new while stationed in Munich. After bringing it to the States, he drove it for
several years before giving it to his father. Eventually, the car fell into
disuse. After a six-month restoration, Willis said he enjoys driving the
like-new vehicle on special occasions.
DLA
Energy employee Tim Weatherspoon said his 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger
“Hellcat” gives him “major cool-dad points” when dropping of his daughter at
school.
Event
organizer John Christensen, chief of business operations for DLA Acquisition, entered
his 1967 Ford F-250 pickup truck. With dual fuel tanks, the vehicle still has
its 1976 camping permit stuck to the vent window.
When it
came to motorcycles, Harley-Davidson was well represented among the entries.
Those on display included a Police Trike, Road King and Ultra Classic Peace
Officer Edition, as well as a 1999 X1 Lightning from former Harley division Buell.
The Virginia State Police brought three of its customized Harley police
cruisers, each with the state seal on the fuel tank.
In
addition, Fairfax County Police brought a police cruiser, the Fort Belvoir Fire
Department displayed one of its fire trucks and two local Army units brought a
Humvee and a tactical vehicle.
