Mentoring class provides options for associates’ professional development

By DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

DLA Land and Maritime recently held its Level 1 Mentor/Mentee Training session which introduced targeted professional, personal and career development opportunities for associates in grades GS-9 and below.

Thirty eight mentors and 38 mentees drawn from a broad cross section of the Land and Maritime workforce got the opportunity to meet each other in their first face-to-face encounter with Kathy Wentworth Drahosz, president of the Training Connection, Inc. facilitating as the guest speaker.

Over the next nine months these pairings will cover at least nine managerial and leadership subject areas to include: emotional intelligence, behavior based interviewing, stress management and how to conduct meetings.

The program also provides exposure to all councils, professional organizations and Land and Maritime special emphasis groups to help mentees learn ways to get involved within the organization.

Developed in 2005, the yearlong development program has produced more than 168 graduates. Graduation ceremonies are held during January which is also the celebration of National Mentoring Month.
