DLA Distribution flag retired as part of Eagle Scout project

By Dan Tedesco, DLA Human Resources DLA Distribution Public Affairs

This spring, a local Boy Scout from Troop 82 in New Cumberland, Pa., led a United States flag retirement ceremony, during which a DLA Distribution flag was officially retired.

The idea was put in motion when Nicholas Miller, who held the rank of Life Scout, was tasked with planning, developing, and giving leadership to others in a service project helpful to the community in order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

After soliciting from local VFWs, businesses, and government organizations, Miller accumulated approximately 100 flags for the ceremony.

The first to be used in the ceremony was the flag provided by DLA Distribution.

Each participating Scout read patriotic verses as they respectfully retired the flags with all the dignity and respect befitting the national symbols.  The event consisted of multiple scouting organizations, family and friends, and was a great showing of respect, patriotism, and service to the community.
