Dolores Brown, foreign policy advisor to the Director of the Defense Logistics Agency, made her inaugural visit to DLA Distribution headquarters in late June to learn more about how Distribution functions within the larger DLA operation, and to learn more about how Distribution services the warfighter worldwide.

Brown is a senior Foreign Service officer at the Department of State, and will serve DLA for two years.

Kicking off her visit, Brown met with DLA Distribution senior leaders, including deputy commander Twila Gonzales, Senior Executive Service.  Scott Rosbaugh, director of Future Plans, led a brief highlighting DLA Distribution’s core missions and worldwide customers.

Rosbaugh talked about the organization’s key role in supporting humanitarian and combat efforts across the globe.  Distribution’s Expeditionary team, also known as the 25th distribution center, deploys for contingency operations, humanitarian missions and other military exercises via movable structures and communications equipment operated by a team trained to perform storage and distribution in any environment.  This civilian team recently returned from West Africa, where they assisted in the U.S. military mission to combat the Ebola virus in the region.

Brown also learned about the organization’s Foreign Military Sales program and the Distribution Services Initiative.  DSI is a joint effort between DLA Distribution and the U.S. Transportation Command to offer combined distribution services and end-to-end solutions for FMS customers.

After the briefing, Brown visited the largest distribution center in the Department of Defense, located at DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa.  While touring the Eastern Distribution center, which occupies 1.7 million sq. ft. of processing and storage space, she observed the pick and pack process and a demonstration of DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s state-of-the-art automated conveyor and sorting equipment.
