C&E employee receives award during Navy EOD customer visit

By Jason Kaneshiro DLA Troop Support

Three Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employees recently saw how their work impacts the explosive ordnance disposal customers they support.

The trio from the Construction and Equipment supply chain visited the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division in Maryland June 10.

Their tour of the facilities at Indian Head included seeing the EOD shelters that C&E supplies. The shelters are used as mobile laboratories by the explosives team to do a scientific analysis of explosive devices.

The analysis allows the teams to identify a terrorist group or even an individual “bomb maker,” said Ed McCauley, a customer operations supervisor.

McCauley was accompanied by Jamie Shuster, team chief, and Lauren Retos, a tailored vendor logistics specialist, on the visit.

“When we are working in an office environment and immersed in our day to day responsibilities, it is easy for us to lose sight of how important our work is and the impact it is having on the warfighters we support,” Retos said.

“But the folks at Indian Head really drove home the point that the work we are doing on our end is helping save lives on their end. We are getting them better equipment, better prices and better deliveries on the items they need to fulfill their mission.”

The main reason for the visit was to update the EOD team on changes to the Special Operational Equipment tailored logistics support program. The ordering process is changing due to audit readiness requirements, Retos said.

The EOD team presented an award to Retos for outstanding customer support. In accepting the award, Retos credited the joint effort of C&E’s customer operations and supplier operations teams.

“I hope they will remember how dedicated we are to supporting their mission and that we are available to assist them through every step of the process when they place orders through any of the TLS programs,” Retos said.
