DLA Distribution Bahrain welcomes new commander

Navy Supply Corps Cmdr. Charles M. Tellis, assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Bahrain, Southwest Asia, in a ceremony May 25.  The ceremony was officiated by DLA Central Command and Southern Command commander, U.S. Army Col. Derrin W. Williams.

Tellis earned a Bachelor of Science in sports science from the University of West Florida and received his commission in 1999 though Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. He received his master’s degree in management from Troy University, Troy, Alabama, as well as a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies, and is a graduate of the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School at Naval War College Newport, Rhode Island.

Tellis’ sea duty assignments include USS Cushing as disbursing and assistant supply officer; and USS McFual as supply officer. His shore duty assignments include supply department head at Fleet Training Center Norfolk, site director at Center for Service Support Training Element Norfolk, wing supply officer at Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic, acquisition logistician at Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, aviation readiness and spares program analyst on the Chief of Naval Operations staff , Programming Division, and most recently served as the operational lead logistic planner at U.S. Fleet Forces Command.

Additionally, Tellis volunteered for an individual augmentation assignment to Djibouti, Africa, and served as Camp Lemmonier base supply officer.

Tellis’ personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal, along with various other personal, unit and service awards. He is also a qualified as a Surface Warfare Supply Corps officer, Naval Aviation supply officer, and a member of the Defense Acquisition Professional Community.
