The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Program provides resources to help acquisition workforce members understand the Covid-19 impacts toward completing DAWIA certification requirements.

If you ever thought the 24-month path to meeting DAWIA certification requirements was more like a labyrinth than a straight way, adding the Coronavirus travel restrictions and course cancellations or conversions doesn’t clear the path any further. The good news is that the Acquisition workforce concerns are being heard.

First Change: With the threat of delinquency looming for associates because of the initial class cancellations, the Under Secretary of Defense, Acquisition and Sustainment, signed a memorandum granting a 12-month extension of grace period.  This extension allows associates that are currently working toward certification 36 months to meet certification requirements in lieu of 24 months.

Second Change: With travel restrictions and social distancing guidance in place, Defense Acquisition University will convert all instructor-led training through Dec. 31, 2020 to virtual instructor-led training.  Acquisition workforce members are instructed not to cancel any registered training. DAU will contact you prior to your course offering with course status.

Third Change: To allow time to reconfigure courses, DAU has pushed the release and publication date of the FY21 schedule to Aug. 27, 2020.  Students will be able to register in the Defense Acquisition Talent Management System. At that time DAU will only release the first 6 months of FY21, October to March. On Jan. 26, 2021, DAU will release the second half of the FY21, April to September.

Although there have been many impacts to the certification process with the COVID-19 restrictions in place, there are a few things that are still the same.  Follow these tips to ensure timely certification.
