JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Does your office have equipment that’s seen better days or a storage closet seemingly bursting at the seams? If so, you might need assistance from the Property Book Office at Joint Base Langley-Eustis. The PBO collects excess or unusable equipment to be re-assigned, donated or sold by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Disposition Services.
The PBO at Fort Eustis serves as a collection center for unwanted items for turn-in to the DLA Disposition Service office located at Naval Station Norfolk, Va.
In 2010, the Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) changed its title to DLA Disposition Services. Despite the name change, DLA Disposition Services has been responsible for equipment disposition through various programs to reallocate Department of Defense property.
“By accepting turn-ins, our office has made the process a little easier and saves our customers the drive,” said Bernadine Moyler, Property Book Lead Material Coordinator. “Sometimes offices may have a lot to turn in, so why not allow us to be your heavy lifters?”
Proper documentation on a DD Form 1348-1A is essential for successfully submitting items, including usable property, hazardous material, and scrap material. This allows items to be assigned a National Stock Number for identification and record management.
“It’s crucial that we have the DD Form 1348-1A filled out correctly before we send items to DLA. It shows accountability for the items brought in by the customer and serves as a backup document for their inventory records,” said Joe Castro.
After the items are logged, they are packed by warehouse specialists to ensure safe transport to the DLA center in Norfolk. Once processed, the equipment can be assigned for reutilization, transfer, or donation as a means to avoid procurement costs and repairs.
If demilitarized items are resalable, they will be auctioned online or in-person to the general public through the Public Sales Offerings Program to recapture funds.
