DLA CFC off to strong start in the national capital area

Defense Logistics Agency employees in the national capital area are almost 35% toward reaching their 2021 Combined Federal Campaign goal of $300,000. By Nov. 17, employees had pledged over $105,000 and 74 volunteer hours with eight weeks remaining in what is known as the world’s largest, most successful workplace charity campaign.

“Employees are making a difference by contributing their money and time to charities that assist families and children in our own communities across the nation and even around the world,” said Jada Fairrow, DLA CFC campaign manager.

DLA Energy is leading donations with almost $24,000. DLA Information Operations and DLA Logistics Operations are in second and third place with just over $15,000 each.

DLA’s goal increased from its 2020 target of $260,000 after employees exceeded it by over $45,000.

“When CFC challenged us to raise our goal this year, the director took it on knowing we’d given that much before even with mass telework and personal hardships of COVID-19,” Fairrow said. “DLA employees have a long history of helping others in spite of challenges.”

Keyworkers are planning several events to help employees learn more about CFC charities and inspire them to give. A charity panel is scheduled to take place via WebRTC Nov. 30 and will feature at least half a dozen charities. Recurring “Tuesday talks” also available via WebRTC feature employees sharing details about causes of the week and personal stories about why they believe in supporting charities close to their hearts.

“I believe at some point we’re all engaged with giving, whether it’s for a family member or friend who’s in need. Statistics show us there are always people around us who lack basic things like food and even shelter,” Fairrow added.

This is Fairrow’s first time leading CFC but she’s been giving since she joined the Navy in 1989.

“As a Navy vet, I’ve always known about CFC. A lot of military programs are synched with the campaign, so I’ve also been able to see how our donations enable charities to provide the support they do,” she continued.

Donors can support causes ranging from homeless veterans and endangered species to cancer research. Since it began in 1961, federal employees have raised over $8.5 billion. 

Employees can donate by credit card or payroll deduction on a one-time or recurring basis at GiveCFC.org or the CFC Giving Mobile App on their cell phone. Both options are secure and allow users to search for specific charities or view a list of organizations that support specific categories by location. A hand icon appears next to charities needing volunteers.

Each week throughout the campaign will be dedicated to raising awareness for causes like ending hunger, environmental protection and human rights. For more information about donating or attending virtual CFC events, contact a keyworker in your directorate.
