November Employee of the Month awardees show commitment to excellence

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation selected Robert Redmond and Richard Bullock as its November Employee of the Month awardees, recognizing them for their commitment to excellence.

Redmond, a material handler in the Customer Operations Directorate located at DLA Aviation at Ogden, Utah said his work was a challenge in the beginning “as it is with any new job,” but he has honed his skills well enough to earn the general schedule (GS) 1-9 category 1 recognition.

Betty William, Redmond’s material expeditor supervisor, said she nominated him for several reasons, among them his achievement of 100% on-time delivery response rates.

“Mr. Redmond’s efforts in processing 99 replenishments valued at over $1.4 million enabled the immediate availability of highly utilized items necessary to meet customer demands,” William said.

“Mr. Redmond’s seasoned experience, inherent continuity and proven contributions have illustrated his unwavering focus to support the warfighter and strive for organizational success,” she said.

Redmond said every member of his team is crucial to accomplishing goals and delivering material to customers in a timely manner, and after six years on the job he is confident in his role. He credits Steven “Rick” Anderson, a material expeditor supervisor in his directorate, with helping show him the ropes.

“Rick was my first mentor at DLA; he is the one who trained me and gave me all the knowledge I needed to perform my duties as an expeditor,” Redmond said.

Looking ahead, Redmond is preparing for his next role at DLA as a supply technician “I am looking forward to new challenges and taking with me the knowledge I have gained working as a material handler/expeditor,” he said.

Richard Bullock, a procurement analyst in the Programs Division of DLA Aviation’s Procurement Process Support Directorate in Richmond, Virginia, is no stranger to the challenges associated with ensuring critical safety item compliance reviews are successful. His commitment to compliance and operational support have earned him the (GS-10-13) category 2 recognition.

Bullock’s nominator and supervisor, Annette Cunningham, chief of the Programs Division, credits Bullock’s recognition in part to his successful collaboration with other directorates.

“Mr. Bullock is the primary point of contact for critical safety item  award compliance reviews,” Cunningham said. “He has worked closely with operational contracting officers to load missing documents and issue modifications if needed to correct deficiencies. These actions enhance safety while at the same time ensure the organization meets compliance standards.”

Bullock said collaboration with the acquisition workforce is the most challenging and rewarding part of his work. He is aided in his job by fellow members of the Contracting Operational Support Team, also referred to as COST.

“My teammates are all senior acquisition specialists with years of experience,” Bullock said. “I have been very fortunate to be able to work with this talented group of professionals for the past seven years.”

Cunningham said Bullock’s consistently positive, can-do attitude and focus on mission support were key factors in his nomination for the award.

“My primary goals for the future are to continue to support the warfighter and DLA, as well as my family and community, as much as possible, while enjoying some fishing and golf along the way,” Bullock said.
