Describe your job:

I provide and coordinate financial support and documentation as a MIPR generator for various locations under DLA Disposition Services West. I’m also a government purchase card billing official and provide guidance on purchases and assist with processing requests for routine and urgent requirements.

How long have you worked for the federal government including military service?

About 16 years.

How long have you worked for DLA Disposition Services?

Two and a half years.

Any good DLA memories?

Some of my favorite memories with DLA Disposition Services are the times we were able to meet in person before COVID-19 and social distancing. I have fond memories of being welcomed to the team when I first started in June 2019. Co-workers showed me around the base, invited me to lunch, and provided and continue to provide mentorship and support.

What aspect(s) of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction and why?

I find satisfaction when I help someone understand a concept or process, and they successfully accomplish the task on their own and eventually train others. And it is always a good day when a MIPR or financial document closes!

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?

I remind myself that when the going gets rough, tough times won’t last, but tough people will. And life is how you make it, so make it one you enjoy.

What kind(s) of training and education helps your work performance in your current role?

My previous experience as a budget analyst and receiving an accounting certificate. Being able to apply previous skills and new ones has led me to successfully performing my job.

What’s something people might not know about you or your directorate?

I graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School. Surprise!

Any good books you can recommend?

Recently, I completed reading The Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku and The Gratitude Diaries by Janice Kaplan. I enjoyed reading these books because I simply enjoy hearing others’ stories and their life experiences. I’m currently reading Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.

Any passions or hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy playing my flute in local community groups and with friends. I grew up playing piano, flute, and viola, so music has always been part of my life. My friends and I would usually gather at our friend’s house who has a baby grand piano to sight read music and enjoy good food. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case so much with COVID-19.
