Darrell Owens, National Security Advisor and Military Legislative Assistant for Sen. Pat Toomey, United States Senator for Pennsylvania, visited DLA Distribution Aug. 20 to learn about how the organization manages its worldwide military customers while also supporting the local Central Pa. economy.

Key DLA Distribution headquarters, Distribution Susquehanna, and installation leadership briefed Owens on how installation tenants’ and DLA Distribution’s missions not only support joint customers worldwide, but also provide jobs for thousands of local Pennsylvanians.

Staff informed Owens that, in total, there are approximately 6,300 DLA employees in Pennsylvania.  More than 3,150 of those employees are located at Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna, adding to the installation’s total population of approximately 4,250- the size of a small town.

On the installation, which boasts a public golf course and various other Morale, Welfare, and Recreation services, DLA Distribution employees are working to support their customers through the storage and distribution of critical military supplies, while continuously seeking new business ventures, and expanding special programs, such as Foreign Military Sales, tailored expeditionary logistics and Whole of Government support.

After receiving the overview, Owens received a tour of the installation followed by a walk-through of DLA Distribution’s largest distribution center, the Eastern Distribution Center, part of the DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa.

Owens, a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, was impressed with the work that DLA Distribution does to support its joint customers and will carry the organization’s message back to Senator Toomey.
