Subsistence employees ‘shout out’ to thank peers in newsletter

The Subsistence Culture Improvement Team developed a newsletter based on employee feedback from the 2014 Culture Survey. The newsletter is intended to help bridge the communication gap between the Customer and Supplier directorates within the supply chain.

The Subsistence Culture Improvement team now publishes a monthly newsletter based on feedback from the 2014 DLA Culture Survey. The 2016 Culture Survey is open through April 29.
The Subsistence workforce declared through the 2014 Culture Survey that there was a lack of communication between the Customer and Supplier directorates within the supply chain.
Based on that feedback, the Subsistence Culture Improvement Team began publishing a supply chain newsletter centered on employees, said Dana Heil, CIT chairperson.
“We wanted a communication vehicle that was light and fun,” Heil said.
Heil is also the newsletter editor and gathers content from other CIT members for the monthly publication. Employees are also invited to submit input for the newsletter and to the CIT.
“This newsletter is a fresh start to bridge communication between all divisions in Subsistence,” said Kevin Burza, quality assurance specialist. “It is short and to the point. It quickly gives an update of what will be going on the next few months within Subsistence.”
The second newsletter was published April 1. It’s distributed through email and some copies are printed and placed in high traffic areas throughout the Subsistence workplace.
The newsletter’s “Shout Out” section has become a must-read for Burza.
“The ‘Shout Out’ section is just a small way to bring what employees do to the forefront, so the entire Subsistence family can recognize them,” he said. “Not everyone gets recognized for the work they do on a daily basis. There are plenty of folks who go above and beyond and deserve some recognition.”
One employee in the April newsletter sent a “Shout Out” to thank another employee for her “professionalism and technical expertise on a daily basis.” Another “Shout Out” thanked an employee for bringing in sweets.
“The ‘Shout Out’ is a great way to enhance communication by publicly thanking your peers for the small and big things we do every day for one another,” Heil said.
