NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania, May 16, 2016 —
United States Army Col. Ronnie M. Davis has assumed command as the Defense Logistics Agency headquarters’ ninth J9 Army Reserve Element commander.
Davis was selected for the position while serving as DLA Distribution’s Army Reserve Element team leader and Joint Reserve Task Force commander. He will continue in this capacity while serving as the DLA HQ ARE commander.
As HQ ARE commander, Davis will be responsible for providing Reserve Component Soldiers in support of DLA’s mission, which is executed through six Primary-Level Field Activities located in 48 states and 28 countries.
Davis was commissioned as a distinguished military graduate from Norfolk State University through the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps as a second lieutenant in the Chemical Corps and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with concentration in Law.
After graduating from the Chemical Officer Basic Course, Davis was assigned to HHD, 3/7 Infantry Battalion (24th ID) Ft. Stewart, Ga., as the battalion chemical officer and deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield/Storm. Upon returning, Davis was selected to lead the prestigious Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical “Recon” Platoon - 91st Chemical Company.
After a brief stint out of the military, Davis joined the Army Reserves. From 1998 to 2000, he served as the 457th Chemical Battalion S-1 and later served as the 414th Chemical Company commander. From 2000 through 2004, Davis served with 4th Brigade, 87th division at Ft. Stewart, Ga. His positions included assistant operation officer, company commander, and brigade adjutant/intel officer which encompassed a three-month tour in training the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Davis’ next assignment was at Howard University, where he served as the assistant professor of Military Science, Recruiting Operation Officer, Military History Professor and as the OIC for 8th brigade, 80th division (IT). Later, he was selected to be the brigade operation and intelligence officer located in Charlottesville, Va.
In 2005, Davis was selected to return to active duty in support of U.S. Army Human Resource Command serving as an Army lineage officer with duty at U.S. Army Center of Military History at Fort McNaire, D.C. During his time there, he completed Command and General Staff College.
He deployed to Afghanistan from 2008 to 2010 where he served in multiple positions with Logistics Civil Augmentation Program which included serving as S-1, S-4, detachment commander (forward) and logistics support officer. He supported the 82nd division, 101st division and the 2nd Marines regiment located in Bagram, Camp Dwyer and Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, respectfully. Davis left the country because he was selected to be the executive officer for LOGCAP at Rock Island, Ill., with Army Sustainment Command where he later served as the executive officer for the deputy commanding general for Operations and Reserves Affairs. Other positions held while serving ASC included liaison officer to U.S. Army North in San Antonio, Texas, support operations officer with the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade in Kuwait and chief of the Command and Operations Center, Rock Island, Ill.
