Former Current Operations deputy receives Defense Meritorious Service Medal

Former DLA Distribution Current Operations deputy director Army Col. Michael C. Lopez was recognized with the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his three years of service to the organization.

From July 2013 to July 2016, Lopez led the oversight and leadership of the Joint Plans and Operations Group, 24 distribution centers, the First Destination Transportation mission, and the Command Control Center.

He co-led an inter-agency working group that provided life-saving humanitarian relief supplies to Syrian refugees as well as numerous additional joint srvice working groups that reduced Army secondary item open disposals and Navy Stock-in-Transit.  

In 2014, Lopez volunteered for deployment to Afghanistan and co-led the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command working group that increased the combat readiness of Iraq Security Forces and the Afghan National Army.  His efforts coordinating with combatant commanders increased the strategic readiness of forward deployed United States European Command forces supporting the operational readiness of the U.S. 3rd Fleet in the Pacific.

“During his assignment at DLA, and throughout his career, Colonel Michael Lopez has exhibited the highest level of professionalism, leadership, and dedication to accomplishing the mission,” said chief integration officer Perry Knight.
