Distribution’s Bahrain site takes on a new Class IV material mission

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution Bahrain began a new Class IV material mission July 16 providing more efficient and effective warfighter support. Class IV materials consist of construction materials, including installed equipment and all fortification and barrier materials.

The addition of this mission to DLA Distribution Bahrain’s workload allowed for the expanding of capabilities and customer support. The distribution center will now be providing 25 percent of the construction Class IV requirement for Iraq with 23 lines of materiel.

Having only a few months to assess the United States Central Command requirement and the organizational capability, the mission came together rapidly.  The mission will be further enhanced with the procurement of additional materiel handling equipment by the service provider.

“There have been a great number of folks across the enterprise and at DLA Central that have put a lot of work into making this mission a reality,” said DLA Distribution Bahrain deputy commander Paul McMillan. “The fact that this new mission was developed and implemented in such a short time span reflects the criticality in Bahrain’s ability to leverage itself and support from within the region.”

DLA Distribution Bahrain received its first materiel release order for HESCO barriers on July 21 supporting CENTCOM customers in Kuwait. Delivery will be by means of surface employing the burgeoning Trans-Arabian Network.

In total, DLA Distribution Bahrain will receive 192 containers over the next four months.

“DLA Distribution Bahrain looks forward to enabling yet another mission set in the CENTCOM area of responsibility, while at the same time exercising the Trans-Arabian Network,” explained DLA Distribution Bahrain commander, Navy Cmdr. Erik Naley. “Both of these efforts will significantly reduce customer wait time at the pointy end of the spear.”
