NORFOLK, Virginia –
Christina Hayes, safety specialist at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Va., has received DLA Distribution’s Employee of the Quarter award for first quarter, fiscal year 2016, for her administration of the safety, environmental, and occupational health programs at one of Norfolk’s detachment locations in Portsmouth, Va.
“Ms. Hayes’ innate ability to manage her time and programs, coupled with her strong interpersonal skills facilitated employee buy-in for our Voluntary Protection Program,” said Ernest Hogan, Hayes’ supervisor. “Her efforts contributed towards DLA Distribution Norfolk achieving VPP re-certification at levels above and beyond industry standards.”
Hayes implemented effective regulatory and safety training programs through promoting awareness and accountability for all employees, contributing towards incident rates well below industry rates.
Hayes used her vast knowledge of safety-related processes and procedures to research, develop, and perform safety and environmental trainings, including the weekly “Safety Tuesday,” Hazard Communication, Enterprise Safety Management Applications System, Hazard Recognition, Job Hazard Analysis, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration Outreach Training. She personally trained and assisted new supervisors and leaders with ESAMS by going to their terminal and ensuring each fully understood the requirements needed to properly screen, update, and abate deficiencies within the system.
“Ms. Hayes is a consummate professional who eagerly seeks out new challenges and produces sterling results with exacting standards,” said Hogan. “Her job performance has directly contributed to the overall success of the DLA Distribution Norfolk team and its ability to accomplish its mission.”
