As Administrator of Defense Logistics Agency Strategic Materials, Mr. Mata directs the Department of Defense organization responsible for managing the National Defense Stockpile (NDS), a program charged with the mission of reducing U.S. dependence upon foreign sources of strategic and critical materials during times of national emergency.
Mr. Mata was promoted to the position of NDS Administrator in March of 2022. In this position, he is responsible for overseeing general stockpile management operations, material sales, acquisitions and supply chain analysis. Prior to becoming the Administrator, Mr. Mata served as the NDS Deputy Administrator. Mr. Mata also held the position of DLA Strategic Materials Director of Finance and held a variety of other financial management positions supporting other supply chain operations within the DLA portfolio. Preceding the start of his career as a federal civil servant in 2009, Mr. Mata enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2001. He completed a five year enlistment, primarily supporting U.S. diplomatic missions abroad and was honorably discharged in 2006.
While serving in the Marine Corps, Mr. Mata earned his BS in business management from the University of Phoenix, and he subsequently earned his MBA from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management in 2019..
