COL AJ Sullivan first entered the Army in 1997 in the Vermont National Guard as an MP. In 2000, she graduated from Norwich University, Military College of Vermont, and was later commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice, Master’s degree in Logistics from North Dakota State University (NDSU), and Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
COL Sullivan’s first active-duty assignment was with the 68th CSB at Fort Carson. She was assigned to 2nd Transportation Company (HET) and served as the Maintenance Platoon Leader (PL) and then Truck PL. When the BN HQs was put on mission to deploy, she was re-assigned as the A/S3 position and deployed to Arifjan, Kuwait in January 2003 (before it ever looked like the mall of America). Halfway through the year-long deployment, she took over as the Executive Officer for the HHD, 68th CSB. Upon returning to Fort Carson, she took over as the Battalion S4 and from November 2004 – October 2005, the BN deployed to Taji, Iraq under the 46th Corps Support Group (A).
In early 2006, COL Sullivan attended the Captain’s Career Course in Fort Gregg-Adams, VA, where she was then branched into the Logistics Corps. Immediately following, she moved to Fargo, North Dakota for a one-year Advanced Civil School opportunity at NDSU. After graduation, the Sullivans moved back to Fort Gregg-Adams where COL Sullivan served as a Battle Command and Sustainment Support System (BCS3) Combat Development Officer at the Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) from August 2007 – September 2008. While in this position, she deployed for a short 3-months to Balad, Iraq and when she returned, she assumed company command of G Co, 244th QM BN, 23rd QM BDE until summer 2010. After command, COL Sullivan completed a one-year unaccompanied assignment to Camp Carroll, Waegwan, South Korea, as the Support Operations (SPO) Plans Branch Chief in the 501st Sustainment Brigade.
Upon her return from Korea, the Sullivan family headed out for the “best year of their life,” attending ILE at Fort Leavenworth from summers 2011-2012. From June 2012 until June 2015, they were assigned to the 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum. Over the three years at Fort Drum, COL Sullivan served as the Division Transportation Officer (DTO), Support Operations Officer (SPO), 210th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB), 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team and then finally, the Division’s SHARP Program Manager. COL Sullivan was also on the Fort Drum’s 10-miler Team and competed in the Women’s Division for the post.
From July 2015 – January 2019, COL Sullivan and her family served in a NATO assignment in Stavanger, Norway. She worked as a Joint Logistics Observer/Trainer (O/T) at the Joint Warfare Centre, NATO’s only joint operational level training center, with training units located in Turkey, France, Greece, Germany, Italy, Poland, Belgium, Canada, Bulgaria, Netherlands, and the UK.
COL Sullivan commanded the 704th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB), 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team from March 2019 – April 2021 at Fort Carson, CO. She then served for a year as the 4th Infantry Division G4 and in June 2023, graduated from the U.S. Army War College. She is scheduled to take Brigade command of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Europe & Africa (E&A) in Kaiserslautern, Germany on July 11, 2023.
COL Sullivan’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. She is a recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Christopher (Transportation) and the Noble Patron of Armor award.
COL Sullivan is married to the talented Joe Sullivan, an Illustrator/Graphic Designer. Together they have three children: a 27-year-old son, Nathan, and twin 10-year-old boys, Jacob and Joshua.
