Lieutenant General Mark T. Simerly was commissioned as a lieutenant of Air Defense Artillery and awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Richmond. LTG Simerly holds a Master’s of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University and a Master’s of Military Arts and Sciences Degree from the United States Army Command and General Staff College

His command assignments include Commanding General for the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) and the Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCOE) from July 2021 to December 2023; Commanding General, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Daegu, South Korea from July 2019 to June 2020; Commander, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from July 2017 to June 2019; Commander, 4th Sustainment Brigade, Ft. Cavazos, Texas from January 2012 to August 2013; Commander, 704th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Cavazos, Texas, when the unit re-flagged as the 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division and deployed to Tallil, Iraq from June 2008 to June 2009; Commander, Bravo Company, 801st Main Support Battalion, Division Support Command, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Ft. Campbell, Kentucky from December 1996 to May 1999.

Lieutenant General Simerly’s key staff assignments include Director of United States Forces Korea J4 at Camp Humphreys, South Korea; Director of Combined Arms Support Command Capabilities Development and Integration at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia from August 2015 to June 2017; Ill Corps Assistant Chief of Staff, G4, at Ft. Cavazos, Texas from February 2014 to July 2015; United States Forces- Afghanistan Director of Logistics, J4, Kabul, Afghanistan from August 2013 to February 2014; Assistant Chief of Staff, G3, U.S. Army Operational Test Command from July 2011 to January 2012; Senior Combat Service Support Observer Controller, Joint Readiness Training Center, Ft. Johnson, Louisiana, from September 2009 to July 2011.

His military education includes the Air Defense Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Officer's Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the Army Force Management School.

Lieutenant General Simerly’s awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 2nd Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NATO-ISAF (Afghanistan) and the Army Meritorious Unit Award.
