U.S. Navy, Supply Corps, Rear Admiral George Bresnihan assumed his current position as the Commander of Defense Logistics Agency Energy, a major subordinate command of DLA, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, June 21, 2024. As Commander, he is responsible for enabling mission readiness by providing globally resilient energy solutions to the Warfighter and Whole of Government.
Prior to his arrival to DLA Energy, Bresnihan was the Director of Logistics (J-4), U.S. Africa Command, where he planned, assessed, and synchronized logistics operations over 11M sq miles, 5 regions and 53 countries on the African continent, integrating with multiple COCOMs, 5 components, 1 CJTF, 10 inter-agency and 4 NGO partners in support of the AFRICOM Campaign Plan.
Bresnihan’s operational assignments include supply officer, Mine Countermeasures Rotational Crew Hotel, embarked on USS Chief (MCM 14), and USS Ardent (MCM 12); aviation supply officer and assistant supply officer, USS Essex (LHD 2); deputy, U.S. Army Contracting Command Southwest Asia principal assistant responsible for contracting, Coalition Forces Land Component Command Headquarters, Camp Arifjan Kuwait; logistics planner and chief, J4 logistics plans and operations division, Joint Special Operations Command; commanding officer, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit 1; and assistant chief of staff, logistics, Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific/Task Force 73.
His shore assignments include Navy Acquisition Contracting Officer internship, Naval Sea Systems Command; Career Counselor, Detailer and Special assistant to the Director, Supply Corps detailing division, Navy Personnel Command; Executive Officer, Navy Supply Corps School; Deputy Department Head, Major Weapons Systems Aircraft Support, contracts department, Naval Air Systems Command; Commander, Defense Contract Management Agency International, Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia; and Chief of Staff, Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command.
RDML Bresnihan is a qualified Surface Warfare Supply Corps officer, Naval Aviation Supply Corps officer, Navy Expeditionary Supply Corps officer, and Naval Parachutist.
The Charleston, South Carolina, native earned his Bachelor of Science in Management from Clemson University in 1992 and was commissioned an ensign in the Navy through Officer Candidate School in September 1994. He earned master’s degrees in Business Administration from Webster University in 2006 and in Military Operational Arts and Sciences from Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base in 2007. He is also a 2016 graduate of The Executive Program: Strategic Leadership at the Top, Darden School of Business.
His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal (two awards), Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal and various service and unit awards. He is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps, a designated a Joint Qualified Officer, and a 2002 recipient of the Vice Admiral Robert F. Batchelder Award.
